Safeguarding

Everyone in Athletics has a part to play in safeguarding children and vulnerable
adults. As a sporting organisation operating within Wales, Penyffordd Run Club
have adopted the safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures outlined by
Welsh and UK Athletics. These aim to create an environment where everyone
involved in athletics feels safe and secure to enable them to achieve their
potential.

WHAT IS WELFARE?

Welfare covers a range of issues such as safeguarding and protecting children,
anti-bullying, equity, poor practice in coaching and disciplinary and grievances
matters. It encompasses policies and procedures to set out minimum standards
of expectations, such as codes of conduct, procedures to follow for dealing with
child protection concerns, other welfare issues or complaints, and to ensure that
clubs and associations meet their statutory responsibilities to safeguard and
protect children.

Welfare is essential to contribute to good practice within the sport, develop
performance and to ensure the safety and enjoyment of athletes, coaches,
officials and volunteers.

It is everyone’s responsibility to protect the welfare of all those who
participate in athletics and members of Penyffordd Run Club need to be
aware of and comply with the Code of Conduct (See link below)

CLUB WELFARE OFFICERS

Club Welfare Officers play a key role in ensuring that club members have a safe
and positive experience at their club. We have two Club Welfare Officers at
Penyffordd Run Club, who are appropriately trained.

It is good practice to have a male and female Welfare Officer as some welfare matters may be of a sensitive nature and members may prefer to speak to someone of the same gender.

Your Penyffordd Run Club Welfare Officers are:

MALE WELFARE OFFICER: Dan Lloyd

FEMALE WELFARE OFFICE: Louise Ward

Please feel free to contact either of us if you have any questions or concerns
regarding safeguarding or welfare at the Club, either about yourself or another
person. You may approach us at a Club session or contact us via email as above.
All referrals to us will be confidential, with the exception of where information
needs to be shared in order to protect the best interests of a child or adult at
risk.
